Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani jointly inaugurated National Organic Food Festival in New Delhi today. The three-day festival aims at strengthening organic market and encouraging women entrepreneurs engaged in manufacturing of organic produce.
Around 180 woman entrepreneurs and different self-help groups SHGs from across the nation are exhibiting their organic products in various segments. Unleashing India’s Organic Market Potential is the theme of the festival. In her inaugural address, Ms Badal said, organic sector in India is increasing at a speed of 17 percent per year and this trend will move ahead much faster as it is positively impacting needs of people from all walks of life. She said, entire world is looking forward to healthy and wellness food items and major countries are wanting to source organic foods from India, which can prove to be a boost to food processing industries.
Addressing the gathering, Ms Irani said, government is ensuring to provide sustainable environment to both farmers and woman entrepreneurs and engage them with latest technologies in the area of food processing. She said, an enhanced FDI coming into the country specifically in the food processing industry has been seen. She also said, government is the last years has ensured that women engage with entrepreneurial skills.
