Special Olympics Inaugurated in Abu Dhabi

Special Olympics was inaugurated in the presence of UAE rulers, world leaders.

The Special Olympics World Games 2019 is being hosted by the cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for the first time. It is also the first time the sports event is hosted in the Middle East and North Africa region. The host UAE had introduced the term ‘people of determination; as part of a new National Strategy for Empowering People with Disabilities’.

According to an official release, Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, today inaugurated the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 in the presence of UAE rulers, kings and leaders of a number of countries.

Sheikh Mohamed officially declared the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 open as fans and state guests watched. He said: ‘Peace be upon you all,
Dear guests, ladies and gentlemen, audience of these World Games. On behalf of my brother The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, We welcome you all to your second home, the Home of Zayed. We have the honour to host the Special Olympics World Games. We’re proud to be here with all the Special Olympics athletes and family from all over the world’.
