Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination for party chief on Monday. He was accompanied by former PM Manmohan Singh and other party seniors.
Rahul Gandhi presented himself before returning officer and senior MP Mullapally Ramachandran yesterday. After the event, several Congress veterans and large delegations from various state units proposed Rahul’s name for the top party post. Around 89 sets of nominations were filed in his favour.
It is said that AICC chief Sonia Gandhi signed the papers, but she stayed away from the party office, seemingly to ensure that the attention remained on Rahul Gandhi.
