The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release the notification of the Civil Services preliminary examination 2017 on February 22 on its official website. The Civil Services preliminary exam and the Indian Forest Service (preliminary) examination 2017 will be held jointly on June 18.
As per the official UPSC calendar, the last date for the submission of the application form for the Prelims exam is March 17.
A candidate must have a degree of graduation in any stream from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to be eligible to apply for the exam.
A candidate applying for Indian Forest Service exam must possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: animal husbandry and veterinary science, botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, statistics and zoology, or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry or engineering from a recognized university.
Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the certificate of qualification along with the mark sheet to the UPSC before the main exam.
The preliminary test has two papers — General Studies and Aptitude Test both have objective type questions with multiple choice answers. Both the papers are of 200 marks each. Among them the General Studies paper is the deciding factor because as of now, the Aptitude Test is of qualifying nature only. The marks of this paper is not counted but the candidate has to score minimum 33 per cent to qualify in this paper and become eligible to be considered for being the merit list .
The UPSC will conduct the Prelims exam at various centres across the country on June 18. The Civil Service Main exam is scheduled for October 10.
