National Technology Day was observed across India.The day is observed to mark India’a technological advancements and to promote the development of technology in many different fields.This day also marks the anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear Tests (Shakti missile) which was held on May 11th 1998.
India successfully conducted Pokhran-11 (code name-Operation Shakti) in which it test fired its Shakti-1 nuclear missile at Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan on the 11th of May 1998.This was the second nuclear test conducted by India after Pokhran-1(code name-Operaton Smiling Buddha) which was successfully test fired in May 1974. Five explosives of the same nature were tested between May 11 and May 13, 1998.
National Technology Day was concieved by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee as 11 May Act as a reminder of India’s technological advancements. So this day is celebrated every year on May 11.
Technology development Board of India celebrates the day by awarding individuals with National Award for their contribution to science and technology. On this occassion engineering colleges across India conduct programmes to support scientific endeavours. Its main objective is to highlight and celebrate groundbreaking achievements and valuable contribution of our engineers and scientists in the field of technology and science and also encourage youngsters to embrace science and technology as a career option.
