Veteran actress Sheela bagged the prestigious J C Daniel Award 2018 for overall contribution to Malyalam film industry. She is only the second woman winner to recieve this award after Aranmula Ponnamma who won this award in 2005.
It is Kerala government’s highest honour for outstanding contribution to Malyalam cinema.
It is named after J C Daniel, who made the first silent movie in Malyalam Film Industry (Mollywood).
The award comprises a purse of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
The award would be presented to Sheela in a function to be held in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on 27th July 2019.
Sheela, popularly called as Sheelamma by her admirers debuted into the tinsel town in a Tamil film named Paasam where she was paired against M.G. Ramachandran in 1962.
She had launched her acting innings in Malayalam through P Bhaskaran-directed Malayalam movie ‘Bhagyajathakam’. Since then she has been Malayalam cinema’s sweetheart for a couple of decades.
She has won the State as well as the National awards for the best character artist Akale in 2004.
She scripted history as being first recipient of ‘best actress’ award instituted by the Kerala government for her movie ‘Kallichellamma’ 1969, for enacting a wide range of characters including the roles of strong protagonists on screen
She holds the Guinness World Record for acting in the largest number of films opposite the same hero, late Prem Nazir in nearly 130 films.
