In a bid to improve the economic conditions between the people of India and Myanmar, the Union Cabinet approved an agreement between the two countries on land border crossing.
According to an official statement, ‘There are already free movement rights for people ordinarily residing in the border areas of both countries. The agreement will also facilitate movement of people on the basis of valid passports and visas, which will enhance economic and social interaction between the two countries’.
The deal promises to provide close connectivity and enhance the interaction of the people from north-eastern states of India like Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur with those of Myanmar. Besides, the deal will also safeguard the traditional rights of the several tribal communities who are residing along the border to move freely across the border.
