In what could be one of the first new initiatives of the second act of the NDA government,Prime Minister Modi has promised to invest one lakh crore rupees by 2022 to boost the quality of education and infrastructure.
This is being described as the implementation plan for the National Education Policy (NEP)2014 which is likely to be released in a week’s time, after five years of repeated delays and extensions. The last NEP was released in 1986, with a revision in 1992.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave special importance to education and emphasised that it should not be limited to literacy but should also aim to build an individual’s character.
Prime Misnister said that Innovation along with education is very important so his Government is focused on bringing the students out of classrooms and making them agents of change. For this reason Atal Tinkering Laboratories for school children has been introduced to inculcate a culture of innovation among them.
Mr. Subrahmanyam said that this is the implementation part [of the higher education section] of NEP, which they hope to release by May 31, after the new government is in place.” Other officials involved in the preparation of NEP and EQUIP said the release was more likely in early June.
