As part of the technology sub-mission of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna- Urban (PMAY-U), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) plans on launching the Global Housing Construction Technology Challenge that aims at accelerating PMAY-U target for providing housing for all.
By implementing this global challenge, MoHUA will draw ideas in the context of innovative technologies that can be used for mass housing projects to help build cheap, fast and better houses, supported with a sustainable green material.
The selected technologies will be tried and tested for geographical conditions of six different urban areas with different terrains like plain areas, hilly areas and earthquake-prone areas. Considering all the parameters of cost, time, sustainability and quality, the winning technologies will be used for building 1000 houses and multistorey buildings depending on the type of area. The technology will be chosen to construct cheap and fast mass housing in such areas.
With PMAY-U in place, almost 8 lakh houses have been constructed since 25 June 2015, which apparently doesn’t even count 10 percent of revised MoHUA target in which 1.2 crore houses are meant to be built by 2022.
