Govt launches Global Cooling Prize

Inaugurated ‘The Global Cooling Innovation Summit’ in New Delhi, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan has launched the Global Cooling Prize.

Prize which is set in international standards, aims to encourage the development of a residential cooling technology which impacts the environment five times lesser than the standard Room Air Conditioning (RAC). Besides, it encourages participants from worldwide to innovate technology to rapidly lessen the harmful impact of cooling technology on climate. The key objective of the competition is to develop climate-friendly residential cooling solutions which would provide an access to cooling without increasing to global warming. The desired technology could prevent up to 100 gigatons (GT) of CO2- equivalent emissions by 2050.
