Govt approves setting up AIIMS in Himachal

The Union Cabinet has approved setting up of an AIIMS in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.
According to an official statement, the new AIIMS will be built at the cost of Rs 1,350 crore under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhsa Yojna (PMSSY). AIIMS will have a medical college with an intake 100 seats and a nursing college with 60 seats.
The new AIIMS, which will have around 20 speciality and super-speciality departments. Besides, 15 operation theatres will be built in 48 months.
The entire facility will also house residential complexes and allied facility services will be on the model of AIIMS, New Delhi. Moreover, an AYUSH department with 30 beds for treatment in traditional system of medicine will also be setup up.
The new AIIMS will be creating a large pool of doctors and other health workers in the region. These health workers will be available for all kinds of primary and secondary level institution facilities being created under the National Health Mission.
