Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot has announced that a stadium of international standard for differently abled persons will be set up in Meghalaya.
According to an official source, the stadium will be constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore. Talking to newsmen, Gehlot said his ministry intends to set up national sports stadium in five states across the country for the differently abled persons and Meghalaya is one of the states. He said that this was decided after Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma approached him with a proposal and also provided 50 acres of land for the same. The Union minister informed that the detail project report (DPR) will be prepared very soon and that the stadium, which will be of international standard, should come up before National Games 2022. The Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister said his ministry will set up a Composite regional centre in Meghalaya, which will start work once the space is made available.
