Firefighters have said they have finally brought Australia’s largest “megablaze” under control. They said wet weather is likely to deliver much-needed respite for the countryside ravaged by bushfires.
Meanwhile, residents and authorities continued to come to grips with the scale of devastation. The Bureau of Meteorology also forecast that some fire-grounds could get up to 50 millimetres of rain in the next week. Australia’s unique flora and fauna has taken a catastrophic hit, with an estimated one billion animals killed, and countless trees and shrubs burned away.
