Cabinet committees reconstituted ahead of the Monsoon session

Reconstituted Cabinet Committees

The central government has reconstituted the Cabinet committees, including the one on parliamentary affairs, ahead of the Monsoon Session, scheduled between July 19 and August 13.

The Government has reconstituted Cabinet Committees under the Transaction of Business Rules.

These include –

  1. Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
  2. Cabinet Committee on Accommodation
  3. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)
  4. Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA)
  5. Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs
  6. Cabinet Committee on Security
  7. Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth
  8. Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development.

The members are as follows:-

1. Appointments Committee of the Cabinet:

Composition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Shri Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs

  • The appointments committee decides all higher-level appointments in the Central Secretariat, Public Enterprises, Banks and Financial Institutions.

2. Cabinet Committee on Accommodation:

Composition

Shri Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways; Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance; Minister of Corporate Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, Minister of Commerce & Industry.

Special Invitees

  • Economic Affairs Committee directs and coordinates the governmental activities in the economic area.

4. Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs:

  • Parliamentary Affairs Committee will chalk out the schedule of the Parliament sessions, scrutinize non-government business and decide on the bills and resolutions to be presented in the Parliament.  This committee is also known as the Super-Cabinet looks after the progress of government business in the parliament.  

5. Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs:

The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will comprise 12 Union ministers

  • Political Affairs Committee deals with all political matters related to domestic and foreign affairs including Centre-State relations and policy matters concerning foreign affairs that do not have external or internal security implications.

6. Cabinet Committee on Security:

Composition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, Shri Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, and External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahamanayam Jaishankar.

This committee decides all important appointments in the government from the rank of joint secretary and above was also not changed.

  • The Committee on Security decides on all important appointments in the government from the rank of joint secretary to national security issues, defence expenditure of India and matters related to atomic energy.

 7. Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth:

Composition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Defence Shri Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, Minister of Home Affairs Shri Amit Shah, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of Railways & Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal.

  • The committee on Investment will identify the key projects required to be implemented in a time-bound manner in different sectors.

8. Cabinet Committee on Employment & Skill Development:

Note: All the committees are headed by the Prime Minister except two, Parliamentary Affairs Committee and Committee on Accommodation which are headed by the Home Minister.
