Border Roads Organisation(BRO) whish is the leading road construction agency under the Defense Ministry celebrated its 59th Raising Day (foundation day) on the 7 of May 2019.
Chief Engineer, Brig Nitin K Sharma paid homage to the martyrs at the Himank Memorial, Leh, which was followed by Chief Engineer’s Sainik Sammellan attended by the personnel of the Project and wreath laying of the jawans who laid down their lives during construction of the projects.
BRO plays an important role in nation building and infrastructure development in border areas.Besides road construction and maintenance works along Northern and Western frontiers it fulfills the Strategic requirements of the Indian Army.It is responsible for over 53,000 km of roads. BRO has also contributed to India’s strategic objectives by constructing roads in neighboring countries such as Bhutan, Myanmar and Afghanistan. It also played a major role in disaster management by their reconstruction work after 2004 tsunami in Tamil Nadu, 2005 earthquake in Kashmir and 2010 flash floods in Ladakh.
