The MLA of Naional People’s Party Tirong Aboh and seven members of his family were gunned down by unknown assailants in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday according to several media reports.
MLA Tirag Aboh from West Constituency was seeking a re-election from the seat.
Tirap deputy commissioner P N Thungon said that Aboh was on his way to his constituency from Assam, along with four civilians and two police personnel, when the suspected rebels opened fire at their vehicle near Bogapani village in the district around 11.30 am.
Condemning the attack,Meghalaya Chief Mininter and NPP President Conrad Sangma, sought the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take action against the culprits.
“The NPP is extremely shocked and saddened by the news of the death of its MLA Shri Tirong Aboh (Arunachal Pradesh) and his family. We condemn the brutal attack and urge @rajnathsingh and @PMOIndia to take action against those responsible for such attack,” Sangma tweeted.
Minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju too expressed grief and shock over the unfortunate incident and said that the strongest possible action will be taken against those who were responsible for this brutal attack
