Novak Djokovic has defeated Juan Martin del Potro and won the US Open final to collect his second grand slam title in succession and 14th of his career.

The Serbian outlasted the Argentine 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in three hours and 15 minutes to join his “idol” Pete Sampras in third on the all-time list of men’s major singles title winners – behind only Roger Federer (20) and Rafael Nadal (17).

Over the past several weeks Djokovic has bagged a unique position as a player who held all four major titles at the same time in 2016 and. Winning a prize money of USD US3.8 million Novak Djokovic stand just three positions behind the all time best champions of the tennis.
