Indian Army to recruit women for military police
Aiming to redress the issue of rising needs for investigation against gender specific allegations and crimes, the Indian Army has decided to induct the women.
As per the proposal, a total of 800 women will be inducted, with the yearly intake of 52. Though they would be taken under the combat role, they wouldn’t be engaged in physically
‘A decision has now been taken to introduce women in the ranks (as jawans) starting from Corps of Military Police. Due to the increasing needs for investigation against gender specific allegations and crime, a necessity was felt to introduce women in the Army’s Corps of Military Police (CMP)’, said the statement issued by the army.
The government has decided to recruit women under the jawans category into the Army’s Corps of Military Police (CMP) for investigating gender specific crimes. However, military authorities, have ruled out induction of women into the Army’s combat arms, since CMP is only a support arm.
