Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel announced 33 percent reservation for women in the police force. With this announcement, the women of the state can get 33 percent reservation in new recruitment in the police force. The decision will be implemented in all cadres.
This announcement can be treated as a part of the state government 100-day agenda that was released earlier. The announcement has made Gujarat the first state in India to implement 33 percent reservation for women in the police force.
At present there are around 2500 policewomen in Gujarat and the state has sanctioned posts of 60000 in Gujarat police. If it manages to fill the 33 percent posts against the sanctioned strength then the number would increase to 19800 women in the force.
