The central government is planning to sell strategic stake in at least seven public sector undertaking. It is said that clear notices will be issued shortly.
The list includes Engineering Projects of India, Hindustan Prefab, National Projects Construction Corporation, Engineering Projects India, Projects & Development India (PDIL) Hindustan Prefab and Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (India) on the list. While some companies may find suitors in the public sector space, top authorities are pushing for consolidation, since there are several companies in the same segment.
According to an official, the government is keen that a large consulting company emerges through the merger of nearly two dozen entities focused on various sectors. Among the lot that are on offer for strategic sale, PDIL was a natural fit for a company such as Engineer’s India, which is in the oil consulting segment. EPIL’s expression of interest is open to central government PSU, closing the door for the entry of the private sector.
