Ashok Kumar appointed as the Chairman of CCI

Former IAS Officer Ashok Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). An official communication to this effect was issued by the Corporate Affairs Ministry. His appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Gupta will be taking over the helm of the CCI from Sudhir Mittal. Ashok Kumar Gupta, is a 1981 Tamil Nadu cadre officer from Haryana. He completed his Post-Graduate in Public Administration from the Syracuse University (USA) and holds a Master of Philosophy in Defence and Strategic Studies from the Madras University.

His last job was Secretary, Ministry of Defence (Department of Defence Production). Previously. he has worked in various capacities in different Ministries and Departments, including Defence, Health and Family Welfare, Industry and Commerce, Small Scale Industries, Urban Development, Personnel and Shipping. Among the roles he has served is Secretary of the Department of Defence Production. His tenure as the CCI Chairman will be till October 25, 2022, i.e. when attains the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
